How common is it when you get married to hyphenate your name?

I am getting married in a few weeks and I really don't want my soon to be husbands last name. I love my name and I can't bare to pardon with it. Plus we had a child over a year ago and she has my last name. Is it wrong of me to ask him to hyphenate our name? I do not want him to have my name I would just like to have both our last name. Besides why is it that women have to have guys last name? It just doesn't make sense to me. It's like you have to give up something you love b/c back in the day men had more pwer over women so you had to have their name. UGHH i'm so stressed. Somebody please help!
