What is wrong with people???

On Jan. 22nd we lost almost our whole house in a fire... A few rooms had smoke and water damage but some items were able to be kept. We were told not to remove items from the house until the INS settles everything with the people we hired. And so they can make itemized list. The wood they put up after they broke the windows for the fire were missing in the living room area. And you guessed it the house was broken into. All the items that didn't get burned in the fire, were stolen.. They stole over 250 dvds, paintball guns, ransacked every bedroom took items I cant even think of. What hurts the most is, we were able to dig in the main area of the fire a month ago after it thawed and picked out some the most memorable items of my mothers. "who ped when I was 14" Yes the items were darkened and some had a piece missing but still meant a lot to have them. The items were smashed against a wall they were set aside and you know it was done on purpose. What the hell is wrong with people?
